Pet Food Recall
Many are aware of the recent outbreak of pet illness and some deaths
due to problems with canned and wet pouch forms of dog and cat food.
The pet food is produced at Menu Foods and repackaged under many
different brands. A recall of 60 million containers of pet food has
been declared after reports came in that some pets that ate the food
developed kidney failure. While the exact cause is not yet
understood, it was traced back to a new producer of wheat gluten, a
protein source in canned products.
Pet owner's that feed the "cut and gravy" style dog and cat foods
are urged to check with the manufacturer regarding any lot numbers
affected. Authority, Eukanuba, Iams, Nutro, Special Kitty, Ol Roy,
and Great Choice are just a few brands in the recall. For more
complete information and pet food company contact information visit
our website (www.lmah.net)
We are advising to halt feeding any of the moist/canned varieties of
these foods. There have not been any problems associated with any
dry varieties of pet foods. At LMAH we have recognized 6 possible
cases of kidney illness attributed to this pet food recall. Pet
owners should be vigilant and note their pet's behaviors closely. Of
the cases identified by veterinarians at LMAH, some were gravely ill
and yet others were only displaying vague outward signs of illness.
Please call your veterinarian if any signs of kidney disease are
noted: excess thirst, excess urination, vomiting, loss of appetite,
and lethargy.

Dental Month Drawing
Congratulations to Casper and Maggie's (Jack Russell Terriers)

an MP3 player. Their names were entered into the drawing when their
terriers came into Lone Mountain for the February "Dental Special!"
