Frequently Asked Vaccine Questions:

Why Vaccinate?
A proper vaccination series is necessary for the health and protection of your pet. Newborn puppies and kittens obtain antibodies from their mother. Over the course of the first few months of their life these maternal antibodies fade and leave the pet susceptible to disease.

Booster vaccines are given to stimulate the puppy or kitten's immune system as the maternal immunity is wearing off. And because adult animals' immunity can wane with time, adult booster vaccinations ensure protective immunity.

What are Vaccine Titers?
Vaccine titers are special blood tests that can be used to check the potential level of protection to certain diseases. Vaccine titers may be done if a pet cannot be vaccinated regularly due to ongoing health conditions, vaccine reactions, or advanced age.

What vaccines are important for my pet's health?
It is important to vaccinate against the commonly encountered diseases, but also minimize administration
of vaccines that are not likely a threat for an individual
pet. "Core" vaccinations are the minimum vaccinations recommended for the health of all pets. "Non-core" vaccinations are those necessitated by lifestyle and
health risk. "Non-core" vaccines include Canine Lyme vaccine, Canine Porphyromonas vaccine, and Feline Leukemia vaccine (over 2 years of age).
