Dr. Delana McCoy grew up in Ravenswood, West Virginia and knew from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian. She always loved animals and medicine. While her mom encouraged her to be a human doctor, Delana was more interested in working with animals.
Currently, Dr. McCoy has several pets including a dog named Cricket, two cats named Kitty and Kai, three turtles named Frank, Opal and Wasabi, and a frog named Maryland.
Dr. McCoy got her start in veterinary medicine by doing an externship at Lone Mountain Animal Hospital. The people and opportunity to work with exotic animals attracted her to the position. The experience confirmed that veterinary medicine was the right career path for her.
Dr. McCoy earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from West Virginia University and then attended Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine to become a veterinarian.
Dr. McCoy enjoys making connections with patients and their owners. Building the client-patient relationship is very rewarding for her. In her free time, Dr. McCoy likes to go for walks with her dog and swims as often as she can.
