Jamela is originally from Brooklyn, New York, and now resides in North Carolina.

Although she didn’t grow up with many pets at home, she got her first cat in middle school and was always drawn to animals. She often visited her grandmother’s house just to be around their pets. As a child, Jamela loved watching Animal Planet, reading animal books, and learning more about animals with encouragement from her mom.

That early passion eventually evolved into a career path. Realizing she wanted to turn her love for animals into a profession, Jamela set her sights on becoming a veterinarian.

After earning her undergraduate degree in 2017, she spent two years working in general practice. She then moved to North Carolina and began working in emergency medicine. While attending The State University of New York at Albany, she also volunteered for three years with RAVS (Rural Area Veterinary Services), gaining valuable field experience.

Jamela is currently pursuing her DVM at North Carolina State University and is expected to graduate in 2026.

During her externship, she’s especially excited to gain hands-on experience with exotic animals, surgery, and dentistry.

Outside of the clinic, Jamela is eager to explore Las Vegas—including visiting Meow Wolf, strolling the Strip, and discovering all the city has to offer. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, eating, and relaxing outdoors.
