Roxanna, originally from Long Island, New York, grew up surrounded by a variety of pets including guinea pigs, parrots, rats, dogs, and cats. Her passion for veterinary medicine was sparked by a deeply personal experience. For her 16th birthday, instead of the traditional quinceañera celebrated in her Salvadoran family’s culture, Roxanna asked for a dog. Unfortunately, her beloved pet developed serious health issues, requiring frequent visits to veterinary hospitals and neurological consultations.
The compassionate care provided by the veterinary staff during her dog’s illness and eventual passing profoundly impacted Roxanna. This experience crystallized her desire to become a veterinarian, driven by a wish to help families and their pets through both joyful and difficult times.
Roxanna’s dedication to animal care began early. In high school, she divided her time between regular studies and training as a veterinary assistant. She started working at a general veterinary practice while still in high school, and after graduation, she pursued her education at a veterinary technician school, completing the program in two years. For five years during her undergraduate studies, Roxanna worked as a licensed technician at the same practice that had cared for her dog, gaining invaluable hands-on experience.
Currently, Roxanna is attending St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, with an expected graduation date in 2025.
During her externship at Lone Mountain Animal Hospital, she is eager to expand her experience beyond cats and dogs, looking forward to working with exotic animals. She’s particularly keen to learn more about handling exotics, obtaining blood samples, and conducting thorough physical examinations on a variety of species.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, and working on crochet projects, balancing her professional pursuits with creative and relaxing hobbies.
