Originally hailing from Puerto Rico, Maygan, developed an early affinity for animals, with cats and dogs becoming cherished companions throughout her childhood.

Maygan’s journey into the world of veterinary medicine began with a furry friend—a loyal dog that she grew up with until the age of 15. The bond formed during those years ignited a passion that would shape her future. From kindergarten, she knew she wanted to be a vet, but it was during her college years, delving into biology, that her passion intensified. Maygan eventually transitioned to veterinary nursing, finding joy in understanding the physiological workings of animals.

A graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, she spent several years as a veterinary nurse back in her homeland before pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She is currently studying at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and is set to graduate in May of 2024.

Recognizing the importance of diversity in her field, Maygan proudly identifies as a first-generation Latina. Throughout her college years, she actively participated in programs aimed at fostering diversity in veterinary medicine. As a role model, she believes in the significance of her presence, inspiring others like her to pursue their dreams in the veterinary world. Maygan is not just on a path to becoming a veterinarian; she’s a beacon of diversity and inspiration, lighting the way for those who will follow in her footsteps.
